Press Release from TowsonTigers.com

TOWSON, MD. – The weeks surrounding Memorial Day are a time for reflection on the services and freedoms provided by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Backyard barbecues and pool parties should be a secondary thought to those who have given their lives for their country.

While Memorial Day Weekend is the pinnacle of the college lacrosse season, as the NCAA crowns its Divisions I, II and III Men’s Lacrosse National Champions at Championship Weekend, the Towson University men’s lacrosse team remembered its promise to those who support the military.

On Thursday afternoon, head coach Shawn Nadelen, in addition to his coaching staff of associate head coach Anthony Gilardi, assistant coach Dan Cocchi and volunteer assistant coach Neil Hutchinson, presented two checks to military support programs.

After selling 46 special Cascade R helmets, with patriotic-inspired decals, donated by Zima Gear, the men’s lacrosse program donated $2,201.58 to both USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore and The Baltimore Station. The helmets were sold on TowsonTigers.com for $300 and worn during the Tigers’ April 16 game against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Delaware. During the Military Appreciation Day game, the program raffled off a team-signed helmet, which brought in over $900 during the contest.

Representatives from both USO-Metro and The Baltimore Station were on hand to receive the donations from Nadelen and his staff, while the head coach gave a tour of the program’s facilities after the presentation. Guests from the organizations got a personalized tour of Johnny Unitas® Stadium as well as the team’s locker room and an insider’s look at the team’s Under Armour kit from the 2015-16 academic year.
