Proceeds from Homerun for Recovery support programming for veterans and homeless men

The Baltimore Station, an organization that supports individuals dealing with homelessness and substance use disorder by providing residential and community based therapy programs, celebrated the 27th anniversary of its annual Homerun for Recovery fundraiser by raising more than $172,000, which broke last year’s fundraising record and is the most raised in the event’s history.

On Thursday, April 25, more than 400 people attended the fundraising event at Power Plant Live. Presented by Fortego, a cybersecurity firm based in Columbia, MD, Homerun for Recovery was also sponsored by M&T Bank, Len the Plumber, Maryland Multi-Housing Association (MMHA) and Praxis Engineering, among many other local businesses and individuals. iHeartMedia and FOX 45 served as the events media sponsors.

“Homerun for Recovery raises funds that are critical to the success of our program so we can continue supporting residents as they embark on the important transitions in their lives, whether it is through recovery or finding a job and stable housing,” said John Friedel, executive director at The Baltimore Station. “This event is a tradition that many of our partners and supporters look forward to each year and we are so grateful for their continued support.”

Homerun for Recovery’s fundraising effort is driven by its signature live and silent auctions. Winning bidders went home with packages including vacations to Paris, Mexico and Las Vegas, fishing excursion aboard the Salty Dawg, and luxury box accommodations and game-day privileges at Camden Yards, to name a few. Silent auction packages included brewery and wine tours, concert tickets, gift certificates from many of the city’s finest restaurants and hotels, and collectors’ items such as autographed sports memorabilia.

Menu highlights for the event included Pizza di Joey’s brick oven pizza, fresh oysters, gourmet BBQ buffet from Power Plant Live and wings and award-winning bread pudding from The Baltimore Station’s own Chef Russell. Delicato Family Vineyards provided the wine and Midnite Run performed live.

All contributions brought in by the 2019 Homerun for Recovery event directly support the veterans and homeless men enrolled in The Baltimore Station’s therapeutic residential recovery and community-based therapy programs.
